Derby County Head Coach Paul Warne feels it was a case of 'two points dropped' rather than one gained in the 1-1 draw with Cheltenham Town on Saturday afternoon.

Curtis Nelson scored his first goal to rescue a point for the Rams in Gloucestershire, after they fell behind midway through the first half, but Warne feels the side had more than enough chances to win on the day.

Speaking to RamsTV after the final whistle, with Derby extending their unbeaten run to six in all competitions, Warne gave his verdict on the performance.

On the game...

We let one slip. We had plenty of chances and plenty of opportunities in the final third and it just didn't fall for us. There are certain things I can criticise but the effort levels I can't.

I don't think anyone in this stadium would say that we weren't the better team and we didn't create the better chances but if you want to be successful then you have to come to these places and win. Our away form has been really good and today we didn't take our chances whereas in midweek at Blackpool we did.

On not taking chances....

We had a set-piece in the 92nd minute and I thought if there's a football God then we'd score off that. Only six minutes of injury team blew my mind. I'm not criticising the opposition, they are entitled to slow the game down but the ball in play must have been around 40 minutes.

We corrected a couple of things at half-time and started the second half really well and it felt like the goal was going to come but it just didn't. It feels like we leave here with two points dropped.

On the performance itself...

I was reasonably happy. I didn't think we moved the ball quickly enough in the first half or switched the ball quick enough. If you're going to switch it slowly then you may as well not switch it at all.

Generally speaking I thought we defended pretty well. I thought Nels and Cash were really good and in the second half overall I thought we were significantly better.

Generally I thought most of the lads played well but obviously not well enough to win a game that we were determined to win.

On scoring from a set-play...

The goal didn't really change my half-time team talk. Collo did great and it was a great save and fair play to Nels for following it in.

On being six unbeaten in all competitions...

I'm still a bit disappointed. I thought we were good against Cambridge last weekend and didn't win and had to settle for a 0-0 draw and I can't say this all season obviously.

We were good against Blackpool and won 3-1 and good again here but didn't win so it feels like four points dropped this week.

I'm happy with the level of performances but we just have to beat teams when they are laying in front of us and at the moment we are letting ourselves down with that.

On building momentum...

Nobody wants to draw. Away from home a point is better than nothing but we expect three points, the dressing room does and the fan base does. I'm pretty happy with the form but I'm not happy with the points tally. I do feel like we're going in the right direction. We can't waste the first half in a game like we did today. That's what disappoints me the most.

On Tuesday evening's EFL Trophy tie at Notts County...

I will go as strong as I can because I want to win the game. We don't play for 11 days after that so it's a good opportunity to get game time in lads but I want to win. If the lads who play significantly impress then it gives them an opportunity to play in the next game.
