Pre-Match Thoughts: 'We Need To Turn Performances Into Points' - Warne

Derby County Head Coach Paul Warne says the team need to 'turn performances into wins' - starting with the trip to Blackpool in Sky Bet League One on Tuesday evening.

Warne believes the side's displays, for the main part, have merited more in terms of points over the course of the season to date and he wants the Rams to start getting on the right side of some of these tight affairs as they look to extend their four-game unbeaten run.

Speaking to RamsTV on Monday afternoon, the Head Coach previewed the midweek trip to Bloomfield Road.

On Saturday's performance in the 0-0 draw with Cambridge...

I thought we were really good. It was the most dominant we've been all season. We played really well and created numerous opportunities. We didn't make the goalkeeper make enough saves but we got into really good areas, got down the sides and it's fair to say we outplayed Cambridge in virtually every department. I thought we played well enough to win but it wasn't our day in front of goal, which is disappointing.

If we'd have scored early on with one of our chances it could have been a lot nicer afternoon but unfortunately you need that first goal. Sometimes you need a little bit of luck and maybe we didn't get that rub of the green we needed.

On the difference between home and away results...

I thought one of our worst performances ironically was Carlisle away and we won 2-0 there. Our better performances have been against Wigan and Cambridge, as well as the second half against Oxford and Portsmouth where we were good for large periods, and they were all at home.

My biggest bugbear throughout the season is that we should have more points than we've got. I've not come away from many matches thinking we've been outplayed or outclassed.

There's a lot of results where it feels like we've left points on the pitch. We've sorted one area out in defence but we haven't scored as many goals as I'd like for our play. I don't think we go into any game differently but it's probably what the opposition do to stop us and when we play teams away. Tey have to come at you and we're quite good at breaking that.

On the Blackpool test on Tuesday...

When we played them in the Carabao Cup in August I remember being really happy at the final whistle, mainly because the whistle was blown. I thought we were awful and lost 2-0.

They outplayed us in every department and I thought they were really good. Just recently they've made a couple of signings late in the transfer window and changed the way they play a little bit. They've had some really good results so I'm well aware of the difficulty.

We've got Curtis Nelson who played there last year, so we've got a good feel of them but we've got to try and match them. It will be our hardest away game so far, I think.

On the squad fitness...

The lads are looking good. We trained pretty well today. We've got Conor Hourihane back and we're not a million miles away from getting Tyrecce John-Jules back. I think we made some good additions in the transfer window, it's just unfortunate that a few of them are injured.

The game against Cambridge on Saturday was perfect for him and that is why I brought him in. It's disappointing that he's injured but I like to think people watching can see Tyrese Fornah was really good again Saturday and the same applies to Ryan Nyambe.

It will be nice when we've got a full echelon of players so that we can mix it up. The players trained really well, we've got 18 senior professionals fit now and with others coming back it looks pretty rosy. We need to turn performances into points now.
