Bristol Street Motors Trophy Pre-Match Thoughts: 'Eyeing Another Win' - Hamshaw

First Team Coach Matt Hamshaw says Derby County are looking to make it three wins from three in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy on Wednesday night.

The Rams take on Wolves Under-21s on Wednesday evening at Pride Park Stadium and could be through to the knockout stages before a ball is kicked depending on Tuesday's results.

That doesn't take away from the desire to win, claims Hamshaw.

Speaking to RamsTV ahead of the Northern Section - Group G clash, Hamshaw reflected on Sunday's FA Cup First Round draw at Crewe Alexandra and looked ahead to Wednesday evening's meeting with Wolves' youngsters.

On Sunday's draw at Crewe...

I thought we dominated possession and dominated shots. Obviously we didn't take as many chances as we would have liked and we're conscious of that. We've scored six goals in the last two games and it's something we keep reiterating and keep working on in training.

On not scoring many from plenty of chances...

Sometimes it's just a little bit of the rub of the green and a little bit of confidence. If you look at someone like Nathaniel Mendez-Laing at the minute, who has got four in four, he's got plenty of confidence when it comes to taking a chance and when he shoots it tends to go in.

On finishing games strongly...

It all goes back to what we worked on in pre-season. We've had success in this division previously as a coaching staff and we know what it takes and our teams generally, from now until the end of the season, kick on and I see no reason why that shouldn't be the case with this group.

You can't fault the work-rate and enthusiasm and endeavour of the players to get back into the game on Sunday. It would have been easy for them to think we're out of the FA Cup and focus on the league but that isn't how this club should be and we remain defiant until the last minute and keep trying.

On managing the squad in the coming weeks...

It's part and parcel of football. There's a lot of games and a lot of competitions, however that's why you have a squad. Anybody that pulls the Derby County shirt on in the first team at this football club deserves to wear that shirt. It's a squad game and everyone will get an opportunity

The squad is tested this week, I can't say it isn't, but it's an opportunity for others that potentially may have felt they haven't got minutes they have deserved. It's a good opportunity for them to put themselves forward into the thoughts and look to get a regular starting spot in the league.

On facing Wolves Under-21s...

We want to go and win the game. It's nothing different to any game we've approached this season. We want to be on the front foot, take the game to them, play good football and take our chances. It's important that we keep winning. We've won two games so far in this competition and want to make it three. We want to make sure that we are doing the right things and it's another opportunity for others to stake a claim to get in the team.

On the Bristol Street Motors Trophy...

It gives valuable playing time to people that might not play regularly but that doesn't mean that they won't play regularly when the opportunity comes. You want loads of competition in loads of different areas and we want to be coming in on Thursday and Friday morning thinking we've got a selection dilemma because someone did well the other night. It drives the first team forward, it drives the players forward and nobody ever sits back and relaxes.
