Derby County's Under-18s progressed into the Second Round of the FA Youth Cup thanks to a 2-0 victory over Mansfield Town on Friday evening.

A first half penalty from Dajaune Brown was added to by a late Tristan Gill strike to ensure Danny Maye's side booked a trip to Bolton Wanderers in the Second Round later this month.

Derby were cheered on at One Call Stadium by Head Coach Paul Warne and his coaching staff of Richie Barker, Matt Hamshaw and Andy Warrington, while owner David Clowes was also in attendance.

The young Rams made a rapid start and were handed the perfect opportunity to take the lead within the opening five minutes after Niall McAndrew was felled in the box.

Brown stepped up to take the spot kick and made no mistake, giving the home goalkeeper the eyes before sending the ball into the opposite corner.

It was nearly two for Brown and two for Derby within the opening 10 minutes but for the crossbar. McAndrew again the provider, this time playing the ball across the box from the left for Brown who rattled the woodwork from close range.

McAndrew, who was proving a real threat, was inches away from adding a second when he bent a sublime effort just wide of the top corner from the edge of the box.

Derby started the second period as they did the first, well on top, and were denied an early second when Cruz Allen's strike was well saved by the Mansfield goalkeeper.

Derby continued to hunt for a second and Brown fired just wide before McAndrew had a well struck shot saved again by the Stags' stot-stopper.

Mansfield striker Ronnie Kokkinos very nearly levelled the game with the hosts' first shot on target in the 83rd minute. He worked a yard of space just inside the area and fired an effort which looked destined for the bottom corner but was denied by a brilliant fingertip save from Jack Thompson to push the ball away.

Allen had a golden chance to bury the game when he broke through one-on-one in the final stages but he put his effort wide.

Derby did finally get their well deserved second in stoppage time. Gill broke down the left, beating his man for pace before firing an unstoppable effort into the bottom corner to ensure the Rams claimed the win their performance deserved.
