Post-Match Verdict: 'A Point Gained' - Warne

Derby County Head Coach Paul Warne believes the 0-0 draw against Lincoln City was a case of 'a point gained' for his side.

The Rams weren't able to make it three wins in a row in Sky Bet League One on Saturday afternoon, but Warne admitted that a draw and a clean sheet was, ultimately, a good result in the end at the LNER Stadium.

Speaking to RamsTV, he gave his full verdict on the draw which saw the Rams retain third place in the league table.

On his thoughts on the game...

I'm pleased with a clean sheet, but I just didn't think in the final third we were as good as we have been in recent weeks. In fairness, Lincoln probably had better opportunities than us so, overall, I think it's a point gained. In games like that, it's set-pieces that can win it. We just needed a set-piece to come off but, over the course of the game, I don't think deserved three points.

On what he liked about the performance...

I liked loads of things, but I just felt the final third actions were lacking. Everyone was a little bit off and that's sometimes how football is. I know we lost here last year, so I like the fact the lads can grind out a result when they aren't at their best. They are the attributes of a good team. I like to see how disappointed they are after a draw, they feel like it's two points gone but at the end of they season it could be the point that gets us to where we want to be.

On the disappointment of taking a point and not all three...

I always say to the players that I'd rather them sulk for a bit and if you're not disappointed then you're at the wrong football club. We're on a really good run because we do great things in crucial moments and today we didn't. That's why we didn't come away with three points. The lads are in a good place but they are disappointed they didn't come away with three points. We just weren't good enough and sometimes you get that.

On Josh Vickers getting his first league clean-sheet...

In fairness, he kept us in it with a couple of great saves. I'm really pleased for him. He's lived in Lincoln for years and did do with his partner, so it means a lot to him and for him to keep a clean sheet is probably the highlight of the game for me. The dressing room are pleased for him too but I don't think we helped him out enough today.

On the quick turnaround with Reading on Tuesday...

If we can win on Tuesday night, and we get four points from two away games, then that's pretty good. We just didn't have enough to win the match today and that's my honest appraisal.
