Pre-Match Thoughts: 'We Can Only Control The Controllables' - Cashin

Derby County defender Eiran Cashin says the side can only 'control the controllables' in the final seven games of the 2023/24 Sky Bet League One campaign.

The Rams sit second and in the automatic promotion places, four points above Bolton Wanderers in third, ahead of the final month of the campaign.

Speaking to RamsTV ahead of Saturday's trip to Northampton Town, Cashin reflected on last Saturday's 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers and looked ahead to the remaining games of the campaign.

On last Saturday's victory...

It was an amazing atmosphere, the fans were excellent and really helped us get the three points. It was a tough game and when it was tough, it's always good when you can hear the crowd supporting you. We were buzzing to get the win and now we just need to kick on.

On how special days are like that as someone that has been with the club for so long...

Every game is big, but you know when it's a big occasion and you're up against a team that are going for promotion. When you know the fans are after it too, it makes it feel even more important. It was an amazing day but it will only be amazing if we can follow it up with the next one.

On how long he and the squad can enjoy a victory like on Saturday...

You can enjoy it on Saturday night and in the changing room, but when you're back in on the Monday, you're straight back at it. You don't really have time to think any more than that. You have to get back to recovering and getting back on it for the next game.

On how much he pays attention to the run-in...

I guess you look at it a little bit, but we can only do what we can do and we can only control the controllables - which is winning games. If we win our seven remaining games then we're up, it's as simple as that.

On his relationship with Curtis Nelson in defence...

He's sort of like my older brother! He drags me where he wants me and he's always telling me what he wants and takes a bit of the lead, which I don't mind. I take the advice off him because he's a very experienced player, he's played loads of games and he's been successful. He also understands my game well, so I think we compliment each other.
