Richard O’Donnell is Derby County’s fourth signing of the summer and he adds further senior experience to the goalkeeping department.

With over 400 club appearances to his name, this is the story of his career so far…
Born in Sheffield, O’Donnell is a graduate of Sheffield Wednesday’s academy and he made 20 appearances for his first club, with large portions of his time at Hillsborough spent out on loan.
He landed in Derbyshire with Buxton and Alfreton Town on temporary deals, before signing permanently for Chesterfield in the summer of 2012.
The shot-stopper made the move to Walsall a year later and he soon nailed down a starting berth, making 105 appearances in all competitions across two seasons.

He was named as the Saddlers’ 2014/15 Player of the Year and his performances attracted the attention of Wigan Athletic, where he spent half a season before moving on to Bristol City, Rotherham United and Northampton Town in quick succession.
A move to Bradford City followed and he established himself as a key player, playing 137 times across four seasons and being named captain ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
O’Donnell departed in 2022 to join Rochdale, where he was named as their 2022/23 Player of the Year, before signing for Blackpool to provide cover for the following two seasons.
