CLUB NEWS: Pride Park Stadium To Host England Women Senior International Fixture

Derby County’s Pride Park Stadium will play host to its first-ever England Women senior international fixture in October.

UEFA EURO 2025 winners England will face Australia in an international friendly on Tuesday 28th October 2025 (7pm kick-off) as part of their Homecoming Series, which includes further fixtures around the country during October, November and December.

Having also claimed the UEFA EURO 2022 title, the Lionesses became the first-ever senior England side to win a major tournament on foreign soil in the summer by defeating Spain in a penalty shoot-out following a 1-1 draw.

The Lionesses will use the match as vital preparation with the start of qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup on the horizon in February next year.

It will give Sarina Wiegman’s squad the chance to test themselves against a side they defeated in the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup Semi-Final.

Derby’s home ground, opened in 1997, previously staged an England Men international friendly against Mexico in May 2001.

Pride Park Stadium has also hosted prominent Women’s fixtures in the form of the 2008/09 FA Women's Cup Final between Arsenal and Sunderland and the 2024/25 Women's League Cup Final between Chelsea and Manchester City.

It will, however, be the first England Women fixture to be played at the club’s home ground and only the third senior international.

Reacting to the news, Derby County’s Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Pearce, commented: “We are absolutely delighted to be staging the England Women international fixture against Australia.

“The growth of Women’s football has been incredible to witness in recent years and we are thrilled that The Football Association wish to utilise Pride Park Stadium for such a prestigious international fixture.

“We have formed a strong relationship with the team at The Football Association, after staging the Women’s League Cup Final earlier this year and the upcoming England Men’s Under-21 international against Andorra Under-21s also in the diary, and we’re looking forward to working alongside them again.”

He added: “It is also fantastic for Derby to be welcoming our very own two-time European Champions to our city and I am sure they’ll receive a magnificent reception for their incredible achievements.”
