Derby County defender Jake Rooney has joined Sky Bet League One side Barnsley on a season-long loan.

The 22-year-old will link up with his former Rams team-mate Conor Hourihane – who is now Head Coach at Oakwell – for the 2025/26 campaign.
After recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained early in the 2023/24 season, as well as a further but different knee injury last summer, Rooney returned to full fitness midway through last term and made regular appearances for the Under-21s, while also featuring in the Men’s First Team matchday squad on several occasions throughout 2024/25.
The centre-back featured consistently under John Eustace during pre-season and in the first two rounds of the Carabao Cup, and he will now aim to continue his development with regular first team football in South Yorkshire.
Everyone at Derby County wishes Jake all the best for his loan spell.
