ACADEMY NEWS: Hawkins extends Alfreton loan stint

Derby County Academy midfielder Harry Hawkins has extended his loan spell at National League North outfit Alfreton Town.

The 19-year-old made the move to former Rams defender and coach Jake Buxton’s side at the end of October on an initial month’s loan.

Hawkins, who can operate in midfield and at full-back, will continue to gain additional senior experience with Alfreton until the start of January 2026 after getting regular match minutes.

The midfielder also had a loan stint at Bedford Town in the same division earlier this season, and a successful promotion-winning stint with AFC Telford United last term.

He also spent time with John Eustace's Men's First Team squad during the summer, scoring a stoppage time equaliser in Derby's pre-season opener at Matlock Town in July.

The Rams' 2021/22 Academy Player of the Season, Hawkins has featured in the senior matchday squad for two EFL Trophy fixtures in recent years, while appearing regularly for the Under-21s and Under-18s.

Hawkins is the third Academy player to extend their loan spell in non-league football in recent days, following in the footsteps of team-mates Harley Price (Gloucester City) and Lennon Wheeldon (South Shields).
