EFL NEWS: The EFL and its Clubs mark Remembrance

The English Football League (EFL) and its Clubs will be supporting the Royal British Legion’s (RBL) Poppy Appeal as the charity leads the nation in a period of Remembrance (23rd October-11th November) honouring the contribution of Armed Forces communities, past and present.

EFL Clubs, along with Clubs from the Premier League and Women’s Super League, will wear special-edition shirts featuring the RBL’s poppy emblem which has become an enduring symbol of support for Armed Forces communities.

Before kick-off at fixtures during Remembrance, Clubs will hold a period of silence as a mark of respect to all those that have made the ultimate sacrifice in armed conflict.

Derby County's dedicated Remembrance fixture will be the home clash against Hull City on Tuesday 4th November 2025 (7:45pm kick-off).

As part of their support for the Poppy Appeal, a number of Clubs across the Championship, League One and League Two have committed to donating signed match worn shirts and memorabilia to the RBL’s online auction.

Those wanting to bid for items in the auction can do so by visiting: mws.com/poppy.

In 2024, over £183,000 was raised by EFL Clubs to help the RBL continue its vital work.

This year, the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal highlights when a veterans’ life falls apart, and how the RBL can help to rebuild it.

Ben France, Head of Corporate Partnerships at the Royal British Legion, said: “For some in the Armed Forces community, issues from service can affect them later in life, often with swift and devastating consequences.

“There are many reasons that can cause a veteran’s life to fall apart – the lasting impact of a training accident, the loss of a friend, or battlefield trauma. Issues related to service and complex mental health conditions can lead to a downward spiral that is hard to get out of without help.

“By bidding in our annual shirt auction, you can help raise vital funds for the Royal British Legion to support the Armed Forces community for life.”
