MATCH REPORT: Stoke City U18 4-5 Derby County U18

Derby County Under-18s claimed a sensational 5-4 comeback victory at Stoke City in Under-18 Premier League - North on Saturday afternoon.

Derby went into the clash with the Potters one point and one place above their opponents, having claimed two wins and one draw, alongside five losses, from their opening eight league matches of the season.

The Under-18s’ previous outing, a 3-1 reverse at home to Everton, was their first in five matches in all competitions - but they bounced back in superb fashion to claim all three points in league action.

Bradley Johnson’s side endured a difficult opening 45 minutes and found themselves 3-0 down at the break with Owen Powell, Daniel Eyaife and Ryan Liu finding the net for the hosts.

However, the Rams displayed superb character in the second period and stormed back to haul themselves onto level terms by the hour mark.

Euan Griffiths pulled a goal back on 54 minutes to give Derby a lifelife, before Marley Mintus scored from the penalty spot three minutes later with his fifth goal of the campaign.

The Rams then equalised on 59 minutes to incredibly make it 3-3 with Mintus once again netting from a spot-kick and to take his tally for the season to six.

Stoke retook the lead on 70 minutes with Pedro Nzau on target as the pendulum of the contest once again swung in their favour, but Mintus’ third penalty of the game and seventh goal this term on 78 minutes saw the scoreline level once again at 4-4.

Derby went on to snatch a dramatic winner in the final minute as they took the lead for the first time in the contest through Sean Corry, who picked the perfect moment to net his first goal of the season.
