Derby County's B Team scored four goals without reply against National League North side Buxton to secure their place in the Fourth Round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup at the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium on Tuesday night.
Derby entered the Senior Cup at the Third Round stage, and the B Team came into the match after a 3-1 home win over Mansfield Town in the Central League Cup in their last outing a week ago.
The Rams took a two-goal lead before half-time as Wales Under-19 international midfielder Cruz Allen netted after 28 minutes and then struck from the penalty spot two minutes before the break.
Derby kept up the pressure as forward Jerome Richards was on target in the 51st minute to make it 3-0.
The Bucks held firm for the majority of the second period, but with five minutes of regulation time remaining, midfielder Owen Eames bagged the Rams’ fourth goal of the night to secure the win.
Derby County B: Kane (GK), Turley, T Gill, Osayande (C), Canoville, Tola (Wähling 63), Richards (K Gill 63), Allen (Smith 70), Oguntolu, Eames, Wilson (Gough 46).
Substitutes Not Used: Dzialuk (GK).
“It was a strong performance,” Senior Professional Development Coach Danny Maye reflected after the match.
“Buxton created problems for us, so it was pleasing to see us adapt when needed.
“Without the ball, we pressed and counter-pressed well, and when they did go long, we competed well and made sure we had cover when we didn’t. With the ball, I thought we were excellent in the first half, especially with some of our rotations in midfield. This created opportunities, but we weren’t good enough in front of goal.
“Then, in the second half, we were more clinical with limited chances. I still felt we could have been better with the ball to see it out a little easier. It was a great opportunity to play against different opposition, and the players managed it well.”
