EFL NEWS: Crowds of almost 1.5 million watch EFL festive football

Supporters continued to show their love for festive football as a total attendance of nearly 1.5 million was recorded across the 108 EFL games between Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

A total of 1,495,076 supporters went through the gates in the Sky Bet Championship, League One and League Two between 26th December and 1st January, highlighting the continued appeal of festive football.

Of that total, 539,068 attended an EFL game on Boxing Day, making it the highest-attended match round of the 2025/26 season so far. The Rams were backed by a sold-out away end of 2,006 for the 1-1 draw at Birmingham City on the day.

A total of 171,568 fans went through the turnstiles at Boxing Day fixtures in League One, while 78,253 attended games in League Two.

Those Boxing Day figures were followed up with more packed crowds on 29th December, with another full slate of 36 fixtures across the divisions.

More than 505,000 supporters attended games on the day, with the Rams again cheered on by a packed-out away following of 3,287 supporters across the East Midlands for the 2-1 loss at Leicester City.

Fans then welcomed in the new year in good numbers, with more than 450,000 attending New Year’s Day matches across the country, with Derby’s 1-0 home win over Middlesbrough pulling in a crowd of 30,266 at Pride Park Stadium.

Fans won’t have to wait too long to see their teams back in action again, with another full programme of fixtures to come across Sunday 4th and Monday 5th January.
