Derby County Academy striker Lennon Wheeldon has extended his loan spell with South Shields until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old has featured on 21 occasions for the Mariners so far this term, netting five times – including in two of his previous three league appearances.
After scoring as a substitute in South Shields’ 3-1 win over Worksop Town, Wheeldon converted again at the weekend, as Ian Watson’s side beat Peterborough Sports 3-0 on their travels.
The England Under-19 international’s goals have kept his side in pole position for the National League North title, with the Mariners currently perched atop of the table after their 2-1 home victory over title rivals AFC Fylde on Tuesday evening.
Wheeldon is set to be in action again at the weekend when South Shields host Curzon Ashton at 1st Cloud Arena.
