INTERVIEW: ‘I have grown as a person and player, it has been amazing’ - Agyemang

Patrick Agyemang reflected on his growth and success in a Derby County shirt when speaking to the media on international duty with the United States squad.

The striker has been in hot form, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists for John Eustace’s Rams in the Sky Bet Championship since joining from Major League Soccer side Charlotte FC back in July 2025.

USMNT Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino has once again selected Agyemang to represent his nation, as they play two friendly matches during the March break in preparation for hosting this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

Agyemang burst onto the international scene when he netted in his first two appearances for the Stars and Stripes over a year ago and has gone on to register five goals in his 12 USMNT appearances.

After being called up once more, he reflected on his journey with the Rams when speaking to the American media.

“When I got to England, it was obviously an adjustment factor,” Agyemang admitted.

“But I've grown into the person and player that I am now; it's been amazing. I feel myself building in all types of areas, on and off the field, and I think it could obviously translate here (with the USMNT) as well.”

The 25-year-old also noted the advantage of heading out on duty and competing with his fellow compatriots for a spot in the national side.

“With the national team, it’s always competitive,” he said.

“You're competing against a lot of top guys, and all those boys are really good players. It's just me focusing on myself. I like to dial into what I can control and keep working hard. It's a great feeling just to be in the mix. You just want to keep working hard, to push yourself in order to be hopefully selected.”

Agyemang will look to be in action as Pochettino’s men face Belgium (Saturday 28th March, 7.30pm kick-off) and Portugal (Wednesday 1st April, 12am kick-off) in Atlanta, Georgia.
