INTERVIEW: Zetterström Lauds ‘Amazing’ Rams Progression

Jacob Widell Zetterström lauded his Derby County goalkeeping colleagues and spoke of the ‘amazing achievement’ of the progress the Rams have made with two games remaining in the 2025/26 campaign.

Zetterström made a welcome return to first-team action following a three-month absence in the 1-0 victory over Oxford United.

He followed it up with a penalty save during the game against Norwich City.

The goalkeeper says Derby have shown what they are capable of, but they ‘still have so much room to grow’ as the Rams approach the final two games of the season, starting with a clash against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday afternoon (3pm kick-off).

Zetterström caught up with RamsTV ahead of the trip to MATRADE Loftus Road.

On How It Felt to Be Back Playing First-Team Football

It felt fantastic. I've been out for quite some time, and to be back there on the pitch at Pride Park was just absolutely amazing. It was a good game to be back and nice to get a clean sheet with it as well.

On the Nature of His Injury

I had an infection that gave me some complications that made me unable to play. All of that is behind me now. I'm feeling miles better, and I'm so happy to be back on the pitch.

(When you are on the sidelines) You just have to sit down and relax and not overthink things, but rather just take every single day as it comes. I just think if you look too far ahead, that's when your head goes.

On the Support from the Club and His Teammates

It’s been absolutely brilliant. From the start, the medical staff, coaching staff, they've all been there for me. I can't stress enough how grateful I am for that.

Whether it's just literally taking care of me or just giving me a call, just checking in, just a little text or whatever. It's been fantastic, and it means the world.

On the Work Done by Goalkeeping Colleagues Josh Vickers and Richard O’Donnell

I think this year has been a very special year for the goalkeeping union. But I think this just underlines how much work we put out there every single day.

It's not just the one who plays the next game; it's every single one that drives the group forward constantly. I was never in doubt that Josh or Rich would have good games. I was always very comfortable with that. They made some crucial saves.

As bad as it was not to be able to play myself, I was so happy to see them out there doing what I see every single day on the training ground.

On the Aims of the Team During the Final Two Games of the Season

I think now it's very important, as it is throughout the entire season, not to look at other teams.

Look at what they're doing, how they're doing. But rather just stick to what we know, what we can do. This season's been a prime example of what we're capable of.

And yet, I still think there's even more room for this group to grow. If you look at where we were last year, it's an amazing achievement. But I genuinely believe that this group can do even more.

I'm not just looking forward to seeing what we can do these last two games, but also what we can do going forward.
