Wayne Rooney says Derby County are not taking anything for granted despite embarking on their best winning run of the 2020/21 season so far.

Derby will be looking to maintain their impressive form, after winning three games in a row, when they head to Rotherham United on Tuesday evening (7pm kick-off).

Rooney’s side have picked up nine points from their last three matches with a hat-trick of 1-0 victories.

The latest of those wins came on Saturday as they defeated Bristol City at Pride Park Stadium, with striker Colin Kazim-Richards netting the only goal of the game.

The win means Derby are now five points clear of Rotherham, who occupy the final relegation spot in the table, as they continue to make steady progress under Rooney.

Rotherham were 1-0 winners at Pride Park last month and the 35-year-old has stressed that while his players are in confident mood, they cannot afford to take their eye off the ball.

“I was delighted with the win on Saturday and now we have to be ready to go again,” Rooney told RamsTV. “We played Rotherham recently and the reason why we lost to them was because we didn’t perform and didn’t do the basics right in that game; it cost us.

“We are going into this game high on confidence. We are three unbeaten, we have won the last three and we are ready to challenge.

“It goes without saying we know it is an important game. It will be a very tough one, we know that and the players know that. We are in a better place now than we were a couple of weeks ago.”

He added: “We just have to take each game as it comes, you never know what happens.

“We have to prepare right for each game. You can always look ahead slightly, but our focus will be on the game ahead.”
