Rams midfielder in England's thoughts for Under 19 friendly.

Derby County midfielder Will Hughes has been named on standby by England’s Under 19s for their friendly clash with Germany Under 19s next month.

England’s Under 19s, who are managed by Noel Blake, will take on their German counterparts in Hamburg on Thursday 6th September 2012.

And Hughes, who is 17 and was capped at England Under 17 level earlier this year, is on standby should any of Blake’s initial 18-man squad become unavailable.

Blake is using the friendly as preparation ahead of October’s First Qualifying Round for the 2013 European Championships.

The likes of James Ward-Prowse of Southampton, Manchester United’s Nick Powell and Liverpool starlet Raheem Sterling are just some of the names in the 18-man squad to face Germany.

Derby-born Hughes, who is still a second-year scholar with the Rams, has been a member of the first-team squad since the start of pre-season training having made three first-team appearances last season.

Ahead of today’s game at Wolves, he had made two starts and a further appearance from the bench so far this season.
