Irish duo in line to face Wales next month.

Derby County duo Conor Sammon and Jeff Hendrick have been named in the Republic of Ireland’s preliminary squad for their international friendly against Wales in August.

The pair, who collected their first international caps for their country in February of this year in Ireland’s 2-0 friendly win over Poland, have forced their way into Giovanni Trapattoni’s squad on a regular basis and have seven and four full international caps to their names respectively.

They were part of their Ireland squad for their four post-season matches in May and June against England, Georgia, the Faroe Islands and Spain, and their impressive displays earned praise from the Ireland coach.

Ireland will use the friendly against Chris Coleman’s men, which will be played on Wednesday 14th August at Cardiff City Stadium in Wales, to prepare for their crucial World Cup 2014 Qualifiers against Sweden and Austria.

The friendly match falls inbetween a blank midweek in the opening weeks of Derby’s 2013/14 season, so they won’t miss any first-team matches as a result.

There’s no place in the squad for Rams defender Richard Keogh however, who has two international caps to his name and scored the opening in their 4-0 friendly win over Georgia back in June.
