Rams Under 21 player nets international call-up.

Derby County Under 21s left-sider Rhys Sharpe has been selected for international duty by Northern Ireland’s Under 20 side.

Sharpe, who signed a one-year professional contract with the Rams during the summer, has been called up to take part in the International Milk Cup Tournament – Elite Section.

Northern Ireland, the host nation, will play Denmark (Monday 29th July), USA (Wednesday 31st July) and Mexico (Friday 2nd August) during the prestigious youth international tournament.

Capable of playing at left-back or on the left-hand side of midfield, Sharpe was one of ten Academy players to be handed professional terms at the back end of last season.

He impressed for Derby’s Under 18s last season and was on target in their FA Youth Cup Fourth Round victory over Ipswich Town, setting the Rams on their way to a Fifth Round home tie against Manchester City.

Sharpe teamed up with his international team-mates on Friday and he will return to Derby once the tournament has concluded to re-join the Under 21s’ preparations for the upcoming 2013/14 season.
