Rams midfielder lands a call-up to the England U21 side to face Scotland next week.
Derby County midfielder Will Hughes has been called up to the England Under 21 squad for their international friendly against Scotland next week.England’s Under 21s, who are currently without a manager after the departure to Stuart Pearce and will be led by national team boss Roy Hodgson for the game, will take on their Scottish counterparts at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane on Tuesday 13th August (7:30pm kick-off).
18-year-old Academy product Hughes claimed two caps at Under 21 level last season against Northern Ireland and Sweden.
He made his England Under 21 debut when he played 24 minutes as a substitute in the victory over Northern Ireland at Blackpool last November, after catching the eye with impressive early-season displays for Nigel Clough’s Rams in the Championship, before collecting his second cap against Sweden at Walsall in February of this year.
Hughes is one of 25 players called up for next Tuesday's game, and will meet up with the squad at St. George’s Park on Saturday evening after the Rams' game at Brighton & Hove Albion.
Also in the squad is former Derby loanee Tom Carroll, of Tottenham Hotspur.
