Defender makes League 2 switch until January.

Derby County defender Tom Naylor has joined Sky Bet League 2 newcomers Newport County on loan until January.

22-year-old Naylor, who was made available for transfer by manager Nigel Clough in the summer, has joined Justin Edinburgh’s side until early January 2014.

Newport lost defender Byron Anthony to a double-leg break last week in their Capital One Cup victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, and they have moved quickly to secure Naylor’s services on a temporary basis.

The Welsh outfit defeated Accrington Stanley 4-1 in their opening league game of the season but went down 3-1 at Northampton Town at the weekend.

Naylor joined the Rams in November 2011 from then-Conference side Mansfield Town, initially on loan, before sealing a permanent move to Pride Park during the January 2012 transfer window and he has made 10 appearances at first-team level.
