Goalkeeper sidelined with ankle injury.
Derby County goalkeeper Adam Legzdins is set for a spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury.
The 26-year-old shot-stopper sustained the injury in training earlier this month and as a result sat out the recent matches against Millwall, Bolton Wanderers and Reading.
After undergoing a series of tests last week it was confirmed that the 2011 signing from Burton Albion had ruptured his ankle ligaments, with the prognosis ruling him out of action for up to eight weeks.
He underwent surgery late last week and will now begin his rehabilitation work with a view to returning to fitness towards the end of the calendar year.
Legzdins had been acting as Lee Grant’s understudy so far this season and in his absence third-choice goalkeeper Saul Deeney will act as cover to Derby’s number one.
Manager Nigel Clough said: “It’s obviously a bit of a blow for Adam and he has undergone surgery now.
“He has been a good understudy to Lee Grant this season and pushed him all the way since the beginning of pre-season, but Saul Deeney will now step up and do exactly the same during the next few weeks.”
Legzdins made 33 appearances last season, after establishing himself as Derby’s first-choice goalkeeper ahead of Frank Fielding.
