Loan Watch: 15/09/13

dcfc.co.uk rounds up the progress of Derby's out-on-loan players during the last week.

Seven members of Nigel Clough’s squad are currently out on loan in a bid to get first-team football under their belts as part of their career development, and here’s a review of their progress during the last seven days.

Conor Doyle (DC United - Loan deal until December 2013)

Striker Doyle came off the bench for the final 20 minutes for DC United as they drew 2-2 at home to LA Galaxy on Saturday in the MLS. The draw means they are now eight points adrift at the bottom of the Eastern Conference after 28 matches. Next up for DC is an away game against New England Revolution on Saturday.

James O'Connor (Bristol City - Loan deal until January 2014)

Defender O'Connor joined League 1 Bristol City on a half-season loan deal at the start of September and he made his league debut for Sean O’Driscoll’s men at the weekend in a 3-0 home defeat to Peterborough United. O’Connor gave away a penalty, which was saved by ex-Derby goalkeeper Frank Fielding, in the first half of the Ashton Gate clash with the hosts already a goal behind. City are currently 22nd in League One and still awaiting their first league win of the season, ahead of their home game with Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday.

Tom Naylor (Newport County - Loan deal until January 2014)

Defender Naylor has been an ever-present in the Newport side since moving on a half-season loan to Football League new-boys a month ago. Sadly, Naylor had a game to forget on Saturday as he scored two own goals and gave away a penalty as Justin Edinburgh’s men lost 3-2 at home to Morecambe. They are currently 12th in League Two and are away to Exeter City on Saturday in their next game.

Total Appearances: 6 Total Goals: 0

Callum Ball (Torquay United - Loan deal until October 2013)

Striker Ball has now made nine successive starts for Torquay, after agreeing to join Alan Knill’s League Two outfit on the eve of the 2013/14 season. He played the full game as they went down 1-0 at Rochdale on Saturday, a defeat which leaves the Gulls 19th in League Two. Their next game is at home to Cheltenham Town on Saturday.

Total Appearances: 9 Total Goals: 0

Mats Morch (Burton Albion - Loan deal until September 2013)

Shot-stopper Morch joined League Two Burton Albion on a month’s youth loan four weeks ago as cover for Dean Lyness, but with on-loan Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford returning to full fitness last week Morch was not required in their matchday squad as Burton lost 2-1 at home to Portsmouth on Saturday in the last game of his loan spell. Burton are now 10th in the table.

Total Appearances: 0

Ross Atkins (Alfreton Town - Loan deal until June 2014)

Goalkeeper Atkins has started all eight of Alfreton's Conference games so far this season, including Saturday's 1-0 win away to Macclesfield Town. Alfreton are 5th in the Conference and their next game is at home to Cambridge United this Saturday.

Gresley are one place off the bottom, in 21st place, in the table after six matches. Their next game is away to Goole AFC on Saturday.
