Loan Watch: 30/12/13

dcfc.co.uk looks at the progress of Derby County's out-on-loan players.

Several members of Derby County's squad are currently out on loan in a bid to get first-team football under their belts.

Here’s dcfc.co.uk’s review of their progress during the last seven days.

Michael Jacobs (Wolverhampton Wanderers – Loan deal until January 2014)

Winger Jacobs has made seven appearances since joining Kenny Jackett's men on loan back in mid-November. He scored his first goal for Wolves in their 2-0 home win over Crewe Alexandra on Boxing Day and he followed that up by playing the full game on Sunday as Wolves drew 1-1 with fellow promotion chasers Leyton Orient at Molineux to round off 2013. They will kick off 2013 with an away game at Tranmere Rovers on New Year’s Day.

Total Appearances: 7 Total Goals: 1

Callum Ball (Notts County - Loan deal until January 2014)

Striker Ball joined League 1 Notts County at the end of November but a bout of concussion, sustained in their 1-1 draw at home to Bristol City just before Christmas after a clash of headers with a City defender forced him out of their final two games of 2013. County tasted defeats in both matches away to both Port Vale (2-1) and Crawley Town (1-0), which means going into 2014 they are bottom of the table. County are at home to Bradford City on New Year’s Day in their next game.

Total Appearances: 2 (+2 Sub) Total Goals: 0

James O'Connor (Bristol City - Loan deal until January 2014)

Defender O'Connor joined League 1 Bristol City on a half-season loan deal at the start of September but suffered a torn thigh muscle after just four matches and will be out of action for several months. He has undergone surgery and will not feature again for City during his loan spell at Ashton Gate.

Total Appearances: 4 Total Goals: 0

Tom Naylor (Newport County - Loan deal until January 2014)

Defender Naylor came off the bench in both of Newport’s games over Christmas as they won 1-0 at Wycombe Wanderers on Boxing Day and then tasted defeat by the same scoreline at Burton Albion on Sunday. Newport are seventh in League 2, in the final playoff spot, and are at home to Oxford United on New Year’s Day in their next game.

Total Appearances: 19 (+8 Sub) Total Goals: 0

Ross Atkins (Alfreton Town - Loan deal until June 2014)

Goalkeeper Atkins was an ever-present for Alfreton in 26 successive matches in all competitions for Alfreton until he picked up a leg injury which has ruled him out of their last four matches. Nicky Law’s side are third in the Skrill Premier and have won their last four matches and face a home game with Wrexham on New Year’s Day before travelling south to take on Barnet on Saturday.

Total Appearances: 26

Mats Morch (Gresley FC - Loan deal until January 2014)

Goalkeeper Morch has now made eight appearances for non-league Gresley since making the move to the Moat Ground at the end of November. Their two games over Christmas, at home to Coalville Town and Market Drayton Town, ended in 2-2 and 3-3 draws respectively. Now 17th in the table and with several games in hand, Gresley will kick off 2014 with back-to-back away games at Bedworth United on New Year’s Day and then Loughborough Dynamo on Saturday.

Total Appearances: 8

Ross Etheridge (Ilkeston FC – Loan deal until January 2014)

First-year professional shot-stopper Etheridge joined Evo-Stik Northern Premier side Ilkeston FC on a month’s loan earlier this month and after making his debut in a 1-1 draw against Trafford, he has made two further starts over the Christmas period. Ilkeston went down 5-2 at Worksop Town on Boxing Day but responded by winning 2-1 at AFC Flyde on Saturday. Their next game is at home to Buxton FC on New Year’s Day and they welcome FC United of Manchester to the New Manor Ground on Saturday.

Total Appearances: 3
