Rams to return to match action tonight in their first pre-season game of the summer.

Derby County will do battle with non-league Matlock Town this evening in their first pre-season friendly of the summer ahead of the 2014/15 Sky Bet Championship season.

Steve McClaren’s men will face the Gladiators at the Autoworld Arena (7:45pm) less than a week after reporting back for pre-season training.

The game will be the first of eight – potentially nine with a further pre-season game in Austria later this month still to be confirmed – matches in the lead-up to the new campaign.

The Rams’ first-team squad, with the exception of Richard Keogh, Jeff Hendrick and Simon Dawkins after being given extra time off this summer after being away on international duty in May, will make the journey to North Derbyshire.

It is expected that the majority of the squad will get match minutes under their belts.

Matlock, who are managed by Mark Atkins, who won the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers in 1995, compete in the Evo-Stik League Northern Premier Division.
