Republic of Ireland international heads to the Tractor Boys on loan.

Derby County forward Conor Sammon has joined Sky Bet Championship outfit Ipswich Town on a season-long loan deal.

The 27-year-old will spend the entire campaign at Portman Road and could make his debut in their away game at Reading tomorrow.

Under the terms of the loan agreement, Sammon will not be eligible for either of the Tractor Boys’ games against Derby during the 2014/15 season.

The Dublin-born striker was a regular in 2012/13 following his arrival from Wigan Athletic, but he found opportunities few and far between last time around.

He was restricted to just five starts in all competitions during 2013/14, as well as 36 outings off the bench.

Head Coach Steve McClaren said: “Conor’s first-team chances were limited last season, especially with Chris Martin in superb form.

“That was unfortunately going to be the case for him this season, especially following the arrival of Leon Best from Blackburn Rovers, so moving on loan to Ipswich presents him with a strong possibility of playing first-team football.”

Sammon has made 89 appearances for Derby in total, scoring on 13 occasions.
