Hanson Called Up To England Under 20 Squad For Toulon Tournament

Derby County’s Jamie Hanson has been called up to the England Under 20 squad for the prestigious International Toulon Tournament.

Derby County’s Jamie Hanson has been called up to the England Under 20 squad for the prestigious International Toulon Tournament.

Hanson, capable of performing in defence or midfield, will meet up with Aidy Boothroyd’s side at the start of next week before departing to France in the days leading up to the tournament.

The 19-year-old Academy graduate made his first-team debut in Derby’s 1-1 draw at Norwich City in March of this year, scoring direct from a corner, before appearing in the Rams’ home game against Middlesbrough a few days later.

He was an unused substitute on a handful of occasions during the closing weeks of the season, but was unable to add to his two appearances.

Hanson was capped by England at Under 20 level at the end of March for the first time, making his debut against Mexico, before coming off the bench in their game against the USA soon afterwards.

England will face Morocco in their opening game of the Toulon Tournament on Thursday 28th May (7pm) at the Stade Léo-Lagrange, followed by a meeting with the Ivory Coast on Saturday 30th May (5pm) at the same venue.

They will then take on Mexico at the Stade de Lattre in Aubagne on Wednesday 3rd June (5pm), before rounding off their group campaign against China on Friday 5th June (7pm) back at the Stade Léo-Lagrange.

If England progress out of the group as winners or runners-up, they will be involved in the final or the 3rd and 4th place play-off on Sunday 7th June at the Stade Mayol in Toulon.

Once the tournament has concluded, Hanson will return to the UK to continue his close-season break ahead of reporting back for pre-season training.
