Jacob Butterfield: "Everything About Derby County Is Impressive"

Jacob Butterfield has been left delighted at just how impressive a club Derby County is after becoming Paul Clement’s eighth signing of the summer today.

Jacob Butterfield has been left delighted at just how impressive a club Derby County is after becoming Paul Clement’s eighth signing of the summer today.

The 25-year-old has put pen to paper on a four-year deal from Huddersfield Town after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

The Terriers’ Player of the Year last season admitted to Rams Player HD that he felt now was the right time for him to take the next step of his career and has been impressed by how hard everyone at Derby worked to get the deal over the line.

Butterfield said: “I started my career down at Barnsley and had a good time there, received a lot of plaudits, earned a move to the Premier League, but my knee injury really set me back two or three years in my career.

“It took me two years to really get over that and get some sort of form back and some rhythm in my play.

“That came last year at Huddersfield and I really produced the kind of performances that I had done before that injury.

“Last year was, personally, a very good one for me, I enjoyed it at Huddersfield, but I felt that this was the right opportunity for me at this stage.

“It’s taken two or three weeks to get this deal over the line from the start of the process when Derby showed an interest.

“Everyone behind the scenes at the club has worked incredibly hard to get me in and get the deal done, they have shown a lot of belief in me and I am just delighted that it has been done now.

“The way they have gone about their business and the amount effort the club has put in to get me here has been very impressive and they convinced me that this would be a really good fit for me.”

After taking his first tour of the Training Centre in partnership with the University of Derby today, Butterfield believes everything about Derby is geared up for a return to the Barclays Premier League club.

Butterfield will undergo his first training session as a Derby player today and finished his interview with one final message – stating that he just cannot wait to pull the Rams shirt on for the first time away at Preston North End in just under two weeks’ time.

He added: “From day one this move really interested me. Once I heard something could potentially happen, I started to look further into it and there is such a talented squad and now that I have actually come down to the Training Centre and seen it, I am surprised at just how impressive it is.

“It’s fantastic and this is a top, top club. With that, you can see why this club is one of the favourites for promotion and everything is set up here to be a Premier League club.

“It’s quite strange how unlucky the team have been with injuries to the midfield position. I have signed now, though, and I am just itching to firstly get out on the training pitch this week, get to know the lads and prove to them that I can be an asset to the team.

“These two-weeks are going to be key to settling in, but I just can’t wait to get into the games now and pull on a Derby shirt.

“All the management, staff, players and fans are desperate for that first win and the game at Preston can’t come soon enough.”
