Marcus Olsson says Derby County must begin to make the most of their chances after they fell to a 1-0 home defeat to MK Dons.
Jake Forster-Caskey’s free kick eight minutes from time proved to be enough after Karl Robinson’s side kept keep the Rams at bay in Darren Wassall’s first game in charge since taking over as Head Coach.
The result extended the Rams’ winless run in the Sky Bet Championship to eight games, although they remain sixth in the league standings.
The contest on the whole made for a hugely frustrating afternoon for Olsson and co and the 27-year-old Sweden international full back felt the first goal was always going to be key.
Speaking to Rams Player HD after the game, he said: “It was a very frustrating afternoon but there were a lot of positives too.
“We created a good number of chances, which we could have scored but overall today was disappointing.
“I think if we could have scored the first goal today with the chances we had, we would have won the game.
“We have to dust ourselves down quickly and go into the next game and think about winning.
“In football anything can happen, we just tried to do our best out on the pitch but at the moment we’re not able to convert our chances and that’s what happened today.
“We had good intentions for the first half and also going into the end of the game but we need to starting making the most of chances in front of goal. Today we didn’t do that.
“We need to work hard and start scoring goals again – regardless of the game; the first goal is always the most important.”
After such a run of results, questions on confidence naturally arise.
Assessing the mood in training, Olsson believes confidence does not appear to be an issue and insists the side are just one positive result away from turning their season around.
He added: “In the training ground, no one is low in confidence - everyone is working towards the same goal.
“I have been here a few weeks now and I feel the quality of training and the standard is very high.
“We need to get out of this run as quickly as possible because we feel we are just one result away from going on a good run again.”
