Assessing the players stepping up from the Under 16s, Justin Walker, Derby’s Professional Development Phase Coach, says he is looking forward to seeing how the group progress and develop over the course of their two year scholarships.

He told Rams Player HD: “It’s a positive sign for the academy that we’ve got 15 players who we are prepared to secure their futures at the football club for the next two years.

“We’ve got some very talented individuals within the Under 16s group so hopefully we can see the progress and develop further over the course of their time as scholars.

“A number of Under 16s have already played in the Under 18s this season and for us it was never a question about whether they were good enough to make the step up, it was just a matter of time really.

“The players that have stepped up to the age group above really have done themselves proud and it has been really good to get a closer look at that group training and playing with the Under 18s on a regular basis.”

Full interviews with Justin Walker and Lead Under 16s coach Danny Holmes will follow in due course.
