Derby County is saddened to learn of the passing of club stalwart Gordon Guthrie MBE.
Gordon, who was 86, had been associated with the club for over six decades.
He was a hugely popular figure amongst both staff members and supporters during Derby’s time at both the Baseball Ground and also the iPro Stadium.
In 2009 he was awarded the Merit Award by the Derby County Past Players Association, as well as collecting an MBE on Queen’s Honours List for his services to football.
In 2013, Derby unveiled the Gordon Guthrie Stand at the iPro Stadium in recognition for his services to the club.
Gordon’s footballing career was prematurely brought to an end due to injury and he became a club physiotherapist/trainer, before moving into kit duties, serving over a dozen managers, including Brian Clough during Derby's glory days in the top flight of English football.
Derby County’s President & Chief Executive Sam Rush said: “It goes without saying everyone at Derby County is saddened to learn of the passing of Gordon Guthrie.
“Gordon was a highly valued and hugely respected figure here at Derby County but also throughout the entire football community.
“I had the chance to hear some of Gordon’s stories from yesteryear and he was a fascinating and wonderful person.
“The fact he was universally loved and admired really does speak volumes of his character.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with Gordon’s family and friends at this time.”
A minute’s silence will take place prior to Derby’s EFL Cup Round Three tie at home to Liverpool tomorrow evening in memory of Gordon Guthrie.
