Derby County goalkeeper Lee Grant has joined Premier League side Stoke City on a permanent basis.

Grant, 33, joined Stoke on a half-season loan back in August and he has now joined Mark Hughes’ side in a deal worth in excess of £2 Million.

After making 16 appearances during the four-month loan spell, both the player and Stoke strongly expressed a desire to complete a permanent transfer.

Manager Steve McClaren said: “We wish Lee all the very be st at Stoke City; it is a good deal for both clubs.

“He was a major part of the team which got to the Play-Off Final in 2014 and we thank him for his contribution.”

Grant, in total, made 186 appearances for Derby over the course of two spells with the Rams.

He came through Derby’s academy system in the early 2000s and made 79 appearances between 2002 and 2007.

Grant had spells at Sheffield Wednesday and Burnley before returning to Derby in the summer of 2013 as a free agent.

He made 107 appearances in his second spell and was a mainstay in the team that reached the 2013/14 Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Final, before Scott Carson became Derby’s first choice goalkeeper at the start of the 2015/16 campaign.

Derby County would like to thank Lee for his service and wish him every success in the future.
