Highly-rated young forward Charles Vernam has become the second Derby County Under 23s player to join Coventry City on a loan deal until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old, who is the leading goalscorer for Darren Wassall’s side with 10 goals in all competitions, made his first team debut in the Rams’ Emirates FA Cup third round win over West Bromwich Albion earlier this month as a late substitute, whilst his form this season also saw him sign a new two-and-a-half year contract.
Vernam will now link up with his Under 23s team mate Farrend Rawson at the Sky Blues to further his football development by getting more senior appearances under his belt.
The switch to the Ricoh Arena represents the forward’s second loan move of his fledgling career.
Vernam’s first temporary spell saw him link up with Íþróttabandalag Vestmannaeyja (usually referred to as ÍBV) in Iceland’s top flight, where he played 12 games over a three-month stay last summer.
He joins a Coventry side that currently reside 24th in League 1 and Vernam could now make his EFL debut in the Sky Blues’ away clash with high-flying with Northampton Town on Saturday.
