Derby County will step up their preparations for the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship season by taking on German opposition in their latest pre-season friendly this afternoon.

Gary Rowett’s side will face 2. Bundesliga side Kaiserslautern at the Fritz-Walter-Stadion in their next stage of their pre-season games programme.

The game will kick off at 3pm BST (4pm local time).

Derby flew to Germany yesterday after completing an early-morning workout at the Training Centre in partnership with the University of Derby, with 19 players making the trip.

Although the main priority is gaining match fitness and implementing a style of play at this time, Rowett’s side are also in good form when it comes to pre-season results.

Non-league sides Kidderminster Harriers and Macclesfield Town were successfully dispatched in the opening two friendlies, 4-0 and 2-0 respectively, as the Rams’ players were all given 45 minute run-outs.

Then, earlier this week, Derby’s squad were given 90 minutes in a friendly-double header. One half of the squad took on League 1 side Doncaster Rovers and drew 1-1, while the other ran out 1-0 winners at League 2 outfit Port Vale.

Today’s clash with Kaiserslautern, Rowett has said, will see him name a starting line-up with the opening day clash at Sunderland on 4th August in mind.
