A couple who lost a loved one to the terminal lung disease pulmonary fibrosis, which killed former Derby County manager Peter Taylor, at the age of 62, have set up a Fantasy Football League in his name to raise funds for research.

Taylor - who was Brian Clough’s number two before managing the club in his own right between 1982 and 1984, passed away in 1990, three years after diagnosis.

In 2013 his daughter, Wendy Dickinson, helped found the national charity Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis (actionpulmonaryfibrosis.org) to support others with the disease.

She said: “Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis has been a stunning success and since we began we have helped grow the number of support groups for patients and family members from six to over 40.

“In just four years we have raised almost one million pounds, a large proportion of which goes to research to find better treatments and a cure.

“But we couldn’t do this without the fantastic support of people like Paul and Nicola Stewart. Like myself, Nicola lost her dad to the disease.

“They have already raised lots of money and have now set up the Peter Taylor Memorial Fantasy Football League.

“I haven’t a clue how it works but I’m going to have a go and I hope lots of Rams fans will too, in memory of dad.

“It’s free to join but a minimum donation of £5 is requested.

“Prizes include tickets and memorabilia kindly donated by Derby County, and the Taylor family will also be donating a piece of their personal collection to the winner.”
