Callum Guy believes that Derby County’s Under-23s will be facing some of the country’s best young talent as they bid to make it five wins from five against Manchester City today.

Darren Wassall’s side travel to City’s Academy Stadium having defeated Manchester United, Birmingham City, Real Union and Premier League 2 leaders Liverpool over their last four outings.

Despite the wins against United and Liverpool, Guy says that the squad are well aware of the task in front of them as they return to Manchester to take on one of the league’s leading lights.

“Taking points off the league leaders was very pleasing but it was a very tough first half, we did well to keep it at 0-0 and then we had the advantage with the wind in the second half,” he told RamsTV, looking back on the Liverpool win.

On City, he added: “We’ll be facing some of the best players in the country. They’re a top team, they’re expected to score goals but we know that we’ve got goals in our team too.”

Guy has stressed the importance of concentration for the Rams ahead of a tough test, but admitted that the side will be going into the game with the confidence that they can extend the winning run.

He said: “It’s another tough game, but we’re going into it having won four games on the trot so our confidence is high.

“It’s been a while since we’ve won four in a row so we have to make sure that we don’t get ahead of ourselves, because we’ve got to be on our game every time we play.”

The 20-year-old midfielder picked out the one quality that has defined the side’s performances so far this season, in comparison to last campaign.

He added: “We’re putting away the chances that we create, and we’re creating a lot more chances than we did last season so it’s all starting to come together.”
