Derby County stars Andreas Weimann and Tom Lawrence visited Cherry Tree Hill Primary School to take part in a Move and Learn session on Thursday 7th December.

The Move and Learn programme, which is delivered in schools by the Community Trust, offers year five pupils six weeks of practical sports along with classroom sessions. The programme encourages physical activity, promotes nutritional education and builds awareness of the importance of a healthy diet and active lifestyle.

Cherry Tree Hill Primary School have really engaged with the programme over previous weeks and along with some practical work, pupils were in the process of learning about the importance of proteins within a diet.

Having two professional footballers visiting the classes provides a fantastic opportunity for pupils to further their learning. Both Lawrence and Weimann took the time to discuss the importance of a balanced and healthy diet as a professional athlete, as well as getting involved in a spot of dodgeball!

Following the visit, Lawrence said: “It was fun, it looks like the kids were having a lot of fun as well so it’s good to get involved!

“It’s a good programme, if they stay healthy and play sports like dodgeball it will help them stay fit as they get older.”

Weimann added: “It’s really important the younger you are that you learn about staying healthy, the more helpful it will be to them as they grow older.

“I think my diet is quite good, so it will be good to share advice on not eating junk food.”
