It’s fair to say that Darren Bent has enjoyed a successful career as a top-level striker, and that is something that Derby County starlet Offrande Zanzala is hoping to emulate.

The young forward has impressed for Darren Wassall’s Under-23s so far this season, especially during the Rams’ superb 5-1 win at the London Stadium against West Ham United in November, when he bagged a brace.

Bent has recently returned to fold after a serious hamstring injury, and he’s been building up his fitness with Wassall’s youngsters in recent weeks.

Zanzala is delighted to have been able to work with such an experienced striker, and he believes that Bent’s career in the game is something that he should be looking to match.

Speaking about his relationship with the 33-year-old, he told RamsTV: “He’s had a superb career. If I went on to have a career like his, I’d be happy.

“He’s an idol, a great role model, and not just for myself. When he comes to train with us, he’s a great person.

“One thing that I love about him is that he’s approachable, I can speak to him and it’s great to have that relationship.”

The 21-year-old, who spent time on loan at Chester earlier in the season, gave an insight into the guidance that he has been offered by the former England international.

He said: “He gives me information and feedback about how I played in the last game and that’s helped me massively.

“It just gives me a heads up on what I’ve got to look forward to, such as learning different types of movement.

“As a young striker, I’m learning the things that he used to do when he was younger, and even what he’s doing now.”
