Richard Keogh insists now is the time for Derby County to retain their focus after firing their way up the Sky Bet Championship table.

Derby occupy second spot in the table ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Birmingham City (3pm kick-off).

A strong run of form since mid-September has seen Derby taste defeat just twice in 19 matches and during that time Gary Rowett’s men have racked up an impressive 11 wins.

Keogh has played a key role in Derby’s rise by producing a succession of rock solid displays at the heart of the defence.

The experienced defender believes the Rams are in what he describes as a ‘good place’ - but knows there are plenty more twists and turns ahead.

He feels that the Rams are playing with confidence and momentum on their side and believes Rowett’s experienced squad are keeping their feet on the ground.

Speaking to dcfc.co.uk, Keogh said: “We’ve really hit some real form in recent months and we’re in a good place.

“Our start to the season was okay but not great, but since then we’ve really kicked on.

“We’ve got a lot of confidence and any player will tell you that when you’re picking up results and playing with confidence, the momentum can really build.

“We’ve managed to do that and we’re going along nicely at the moment. There’s a long way to go this season, especially in the Championship.

“We’re pleased with where we’re at but we hope to kick on even more and see where we end up. We aren’t getting ahead of ourselves at all or carried away.

“We have an experienced squad here; players that have been in this position in the past and know what’s required. We hope we can use that to our advantage and help the younger lads we have along as well.”

Keogh, 31, has made 27 appearances for Derby in all competitions so far this season, taking his total number in a Rams shirt to 273.
