Derby County’s Under-18s’ 2018 started with a defeat at the hands Everton, who were 2-1 winners at the Training Centre in partnership with the University of Derby.

The visitors took the lead shortly before half time, with Anthony Gordon taking the ball around goalkeeper Joe Fryatt before finishing into an empty net.

The Toffees then doubled their lead two minutes later; Manasse Mampala cut in from the right side before firing his effort goal bound.

Derby pulled a goal back shortly after the restart when substitute Henry Wise volleyed in Jason Knight’s cross at the back post.

The Rams came close to levelling with ten minutes remaining, but captain Max Bird’s free kick was only able to force a save out of visiting goalkeeper Matthew Johnson.

The defeat for the hosts was their first in all competitions since September and only their second loss all season.
