In an exclusive interview with Colin Gibson for RamsTV, Sam Winnall spoke of his desire to fight back from his cruciate ligament injury.

The striker – on-loan from Sheffield Wednesday – suffered the blow during the late stages of the Rams’ 3-0 win against Brentford and astonishingly, he went on to win a late penalty after the injury was sustained.
Winnall will stay with Derby whilst he completes his rehabilitation, and despite the setback, he is remaining optimistic.
He said: “I’m surprisingly positive, I think that considering I’ve been through this type of injury before, I know what it’s going to take, in terms of the mind process and battle that you have with yourself.
“I don’t think anybody can be well-prepared for this type of injury, but having been through it before, it unfortunately does stand me in good stead for the battle that I’ve got ahead of me.”

Winnall has become a fan-favourite since joining in the summer after scoring six goals in six league starts – including a stunner away at Ipswich Town – and he gave an insight into the early stages of his recovery so far.
“I’m feeling positive, the surgeon down in London [Andy Williams] was really good with me,” he said.
“The only way is up, I had the operation last Thursday and I was back in on Monday, I wanted to get back to work with the physios.
“I’m trying to keep a smile on my face and hopefully I’ll be back fit as soon as possible.”
