Derby County’s Matej Vydra has been named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year for the 2017/18 season after a stunning campaign in which he’s scored 19 league goals so far.

Vydra has been a key part of Gary Rowett’s side this term, starting 33 games in the league whilst appearing as a substitute on three occasions, but it’s his form in front of goal especially that has caught the eye.

From the outside, it might look that the Derby No.23 has been on a mission to put together his own personal Goal of the Season competition.

A series of spectacular strikes have lit up Pride Park Stadium, in particular the opening goal after just 24 seconds in the East Midlands derby against Nottingham Forest back in October.

Vydra also registered his first ever league hat-trick with a superb treble against this weekend’s opponents Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium earlier this term.

His record so far means that he’s just one strike away from equalling his best ever goalscoring tally in a single league season, which came when he bagged 20 for Watford during the 2012/13 Championship campaign.

The Rams’ forward has been included in the league’s best eleven ahead of the 45th PFA Awards ceremony, which will take place at Grosvenor House in London on Sunday 22nd April.
