Derby County under-23s cap of a busy week with their third match in seven days when they face Plymouth Argyle in the Premier League Cup.

Darren Wassall’s side travel to the south-west outfit to open their cup campaign against the Pilgrims on Thursday night (kick-off: 7pm) at Home park. They will then face Aston Villa and Bristol City next month to round off the first meetings of the group stage. Last season, the Rams reached the knockout stages of the competition and we eventually eliminated by Sheffield United.

Here, dcfc.co.uk has everything you need to know ahead of the clash.

SETTING THE SCENE…

It has been a busy week for the young Rams who are preparing to face their third opposition in three different competitions within a seven-day span. On Friday night under the lights at Pride Park Stadium, Derby got off the mark in the Premier League International Cup with a 1-1 draw against Paris Saint-Germain.

In their return to Premier League 2 – Division 1 action on Monday night, the Rams handed Brighton and Hove Albion their first loss of the season with an impressive team performance and a wonder-strike by Jacob Butterfield.

Speaking to RamsTV, Craig Short said: “I think players would rather play than train. We had a few players with us on Monday night who weren’t involved, and we have a bigger squad to choose from now.

“Some of those could get involved and some of the Under-18s could step up again like Jack [Stretton] who made his debut for us on Monday and Jason [Knight]. I’d rather have the games and I’m sure the players would too.”

HOW TO FOLLOW THE ACTION…
