Jayden Bogle said his eyes lit up in added time as he had an opportunity to secure a late winner against Bristol City - but it wasn’t to be and Derby County settled for a 1-1 draw at Pride Park Stadium.

Despite a dominant opening half for the Rams, it was the visitors who took the lead as Jamie Paterson lifted an effort over Scott Carson. Martyn Waghorn then found the equaliser on the end of a cross from Mason Mount before half-time.

An abundance of chances came for Derby in the second half as the Robins sat back but they were unable to find the finish.

One of those opportunities was presented to the 18-year-old in added time when the ball came to him at the far post, only to be denied from close range by Niki Maenpaa.

“My eyes did light up, it was late on and it was a good opportunity for me to get the winner,” the full-back told RamsTV following the game.

“I didn’t, and I was a bit frustrated after, but we will go again.

“It was frustrating because we dominated pretty much all of it, especially in the first-half. I think if we took our opportunities a bit better then we will start to put teams like these to bed.

He added: “It’s hard when teams sit in because they literally put all their players behind the ball and it is tough for us to break down. We work a lot on it in training and I think for the rest of the season it will get better and we will start to dominate teams like this.

“We have a strong squad and I think everyone will bounce back strong and we will go again in training and we will go again in the next game.”

The game marked the halfway point of the season, in what has been a whirlwind for the young defender who has cemented his place in Frank Lampard’s side.

This time last year, Bogle was still in the Under-18s with only a handful of Under-23s games under his belt.

He was also looking forward to a break for Christmas at home with his family. This year, he is looking forward to getting to work on the training ground to prepare to fight for points of Boxing Day at Sheffield United.

“Personally, it has been a good half to the season and I just want to keep going and continue this progress into the rest of the season and further on,” he said reflecting on the season so far.

“I’m so used to having Christmas at home with my family and it will be different this year, but I’m sure I’ll get time to see them and also time to be at the club working hard for all the games we have coming up because we have a busy period.”

He added: “Every game in the Championship is a big game because anyone can beat anyone. I think especially when you are playing teams in the top-half of the table, it’s a bigger challenge and we need to rise to that. We go again in the next game and perform.”
