Derby County earned a point against Bristol City after Martyn Waghorn found the equaliser in a 1-1 draw.

The draw made it four games unbeaten for the Rams as they hit the half-way mark of the season and look to push on over a busy Christmas period.

Jamie Paterson gave the visitors the early lead before Waghorn latched on to a cross from Mason Mount to draw level. Scott Carson made a magnificent save in the final minutes to deny the Robins from taking all three points.

The Rams were in control from the start with the Robins struggling to find a way to break them down.

Inside the opening 10 minutes Scott Malone had a shot whistle just over the bar as he controlled down and struck the volley off a deflected shot by Florian Jozefzoon.

The Danish wideman was in the mix again in the 16th minute when he made a run in behind as Harry Wilson fed through to him but Jozefzoon’s low shot went straight to Niki Maenpaa. Bristol’s ‘keeper was called in to action again just two minutes later. Mason Mount turned and fired sweetly off the bounce towards the bottom right corner from outside the area.

Despite numerous chances for the Rams, it was the visitors who took the lead when Jamie Paterson took advantage of a mistake at the back and lifted the ball over Scott Carson. Fikayo Tomori and Scott Malone raced to clear the lines but couldn’t reach it in time.

Having taken the lead, Bristol were able to sit back even more. However, the Rams kept pushing forward. Wilson powered down the right before flinging in a cross to David Nugent in front of the goal, but the forward nodded over.

The Rams were fortunate not to go 2-0 down ten minutes from the break when Famara Diedhiou broke through and rattled his effort off the crossbar. It was straight down the other end for Derby to equalise.

Mount did well down the left to control a pass from Jozefzoon before it went out and turned to whip in a cross to Waghorn. His first-time effort fired into the back of the net.

With 20 minutes remaining, the Rams were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous position on the edge of the box. Mount elected to take it and curled it wonderfully, but it was a comfortable save for Maenpaa.

The young midfielder put forced another save from Maenpaa just two minutes later when he struck a low shot from range that the Robins’ ‘keeper palmed out.

Carson made a spectacular save on the 85th minute to deny Diedioue’s volley from close range and deny the Robins all three points.

Jayden Bogle then came close for the Rams in extra time with his close-range effort that was palmed away.
