Scott Malone is to miss Derby County’s midweek trip to Blackburn Rovers due to injury.

The left-back was forced off in the early stages of Saturday’s 3-3 draw at Brentford after suffering a blow to his ribs.

Manager Frank Lampard confirmed the news during his pre-match media duties ahead of the trip to Ewood Park.

Malone was replaced by Ashley Cole at Griffin Park, who is in line to make his first start in just over a month tomorrow.

Lampard told RamsTV: “Scott has a rib injury and he won’t be available for Blackburn.

“I don’t know how soon he will be fit and it is a painful injury that he suffered.

“I had a rib injury myself as a player and I know the pain it can cause.

“He has been struggling to sleep at night because of the pain, but hopefully we can get that down and get him back and involved soon.”

Striker Martyn Waghorn will, however, be available to face Tony Mowbray’s men.

Waghorn picked up a dead leg against Brentford, which saw him substituted early in the second half, but came through training on Monday unscathed.

“Martyn had a dead leg but he’s recovered,” Lampard said.

“He will be alright to make the trip to Blackburn.”

Other than being without long-term absentees Curtis Davies, Craig Forsyth, Andy King and Marcus Olsson, as well as Malone, Lampard has a full squad to call upon.
