Sunday is all about excitement for striker Martyn Waghorn.

Derby County head into the final day of the Sky Bet Championship season knowing a victory over West Bromwich Albion will see them claim the final play-off position.

The visitors have already secured their position in the end of season lottery and the Rams know three points will see them join the Baggies in extending their campaign.

But how do you approach a game that has so much riding on it?

“You have got to enjoy these games,” admitted Waghorn, who was speaking to RamsTV ahead of the game.

“You come here to win games, challenge at the top and I’ve been in this position before.

“It’s exciting, you know what the end goal is, you know what the next few weeks have got in store for you if you get the job done so it’s exciting and you want to be a part of it and I look forward to it.

“It’s a pretty big game. It’s been an eventful season. We have had some highs, good cup runs and some disappointments along the way but that’s what this league does to you.

“It’s down to us in the last game. We would have bitten your hand off at the start of the season for the position we are in so it’s up to us. It’s a big game on Sunday and we look forward to it.”

With a place in the Premier League up for grabs, the prize could not be more sacred.

Waghorn himself has been involved in some big games in his career, as have many of the current Derby side.

With that experience, the striker believes his side have more than enough quality to get the job done on Sunday afternoon.

“Everyone has played in big games in one way or another throughout their careers but this one, with the chance to go further in the league, is huge for everyone involved,” he said.

“It’s where we all want to be and it’s another game towards our end target so it’s going to be tough.

“We have to respect that West Brom are a very tough team but we know on our day, as we have shown throughout the season, on one-off games we are pretty good so we look forward to it.”
