Rams in Kenya is an annual volunteering trip to the schools in the slums of Nakuru, Kenya, which invites Derby County fans, Derby County Community Trust supporters or simply anyone with an interest to take on the adventure of a lifetime to help improve the lives of the children in the Trust’s five partner schools.

Details for the 2020 trip have been announced after over 50 volunteers returned from the latest trip earlier this month after helping those in need. The 2019 Rams in Kenya trip included the youngest ever volunteers in 8-year-old twins, and with the eldest ever taken being 78, goes to show that age is no barrier to joining the trip.Furthermore, no formal skills whatsoever are required, just a dedication to helping and getting stuck in.

This year’s trip was the eighth visit to Nakuru, and volunteers improved classroom facilities, installed and provided new kitchen equipment and brought recreational activities including sports days, music and crocheting to the children at the five partner schools.

On returning from Kenya. Community Manager at the Trust Paul Newman said: “Every year the trip is a humbling reminder of how much we take for granted. We work with some of the happiest kids who live in the poorest conditions and have nothing, yet anything they do have they want to share.

“We all lead busy lives and it’s easy to think of reasons not leave your comfort zone but joining the trip will be one of the best decision you ever make.”

Rams in Kenya 2020 has a one week or two-week option, departing on 16th May (two weeks) or 23rd May (one week).

Those interested are invited to find out more on derbycountycommunitytrust.com/rams-in-kenya and to come along to the Trust’s first non-obligation, information evening on Thursday 18th July from 7pm-8:30pm at Pride Park Stadium.
